THE PLOT:
The inspiring story of the team that transcended its sport and united a nation with a new feeling of hope. Based on the true story of one of the greatest moments in sports history, the tale captures a time and place where differences could be settled by games and a cold war could be put on ice. In 1980, the United States Ice Hockey team's coach, Herb Brooks, took a ragtag squad of college kids up against the legendary juggernaut from the Soviet Union at the Olympic Games. Despite the long odds, Team USA carried the pride of a nation yearning from a distraction from world events. With the world watching the team rose to the occasion, prompting broadcaster Al Michaels' now famous question, to the millions viewing at home: Do you believe in a miracle? Yes!

THE REVIEW:
Though this movie was all about a United States hockey team, I wanted to see it for one reason: I love hockey and movies. So when they both come together, I have to see it. There are only a handful of hockey movies, (Slap Shot, Mystery, Alaska, Youngblood and the Mighty Ducks), so I was happy to see another movie about the greatest sport.

As for this movie, it was a solid movie. The hockey scenes were great and lengthy, which was an added bonus. The story was good, even though predictable. It’s history, so you know what will happen. It was a good behind the bench look at the event that would be known as The Miracle on Ice. Though I had a good idea of what happened, this was before my time, so I was more interested than most people were. Mainly how they won the big game and to my surprise, it was more realistic than many other sports movies.

Kurt Russell was wonderful as the legendary Herb Brooks, the coach of this long shot team. As for the rest of the cast, mainly the guys on the team did all right. But the majority of them were real life hockey players and not actors, so I wasn’t expecting Oscar worthy performances. This was a hockey team of 20 players, so I couldn’t get into many of their sub-plots.

But overall, it was a solid addition to the collection of hockey movie.
