THE PLOT:
This is the story of a guy named Joel who discovers that his long-time girlfriend, Clementine has undergone a psychiatrist's experimental procedure in which all of her memory of Joel is removed, after the couple has tried for years to get their relationship working fluidly. Frustrated by the idea of still being in love with a woman who doesn't remember their time together, Joel agrees to undergo the procedure as well, to erase his memories of Clementine. The film, which takes place mostly within Joel's mind, follows his memories of Clementine backwards in time as each recent memory is replaced, and the procedure then goes on to the previous one, which is likewise seen, and then erased. Once the process starts, however, Joel realizes he doesn't really want to forget Clementine, so he starts smuggling her away into parts of his memory where she doesn't belong which alters other things about his memories as well...

THE REVIEW:
This is the most underrated movie of 2002. It is also my favourite movie of the same year. Edward Norton gives another brilliant performance as Monty Brogan, who is going to jail for 7years in less than24 hours. In my opinion, he is the best actor out there nowadays. Barry Pepper shows me that he is a good actor, he is great as Monty’s best friend, Frank Slaughtery. Philip Seymour Hoffman gives a great portrayal of Monty’s other best friend, Jacob Elinisky, who is an awkward high school teacher. Brian Cox is wonderful as Monty’s father and his monologue at the end is great. Rosario Dawson and Anna Paquin both give good performances as well as look hot throughout the movie.

The master Spike Lee is behind the camera and once again creates another masterpiece. 25th Hour is even better than his other masterpiece, Do The Right Thing. Normally, I don’t really comment on the screenplay, but David Benioff did a wonderful job adapting his own book. The dialogue is as gritty and edgy as it gets and the “Fuck you” monologue is by far the best monologue on screen. The movie looked awesome and the cast all gave great performances under perfect direction by Spike Lee.

This movie was robbed last year at the Oscars. It didn’t receive one nomination. It was clearly the best movie of the year and Edward Norton should’ve been nominated for his performance, which was his 2nd best, (behind only to his performance is American History X). Spike Lee should’ve got at least a nom for best director. I highly recommend this movie to everybody, though it might be too offensive for most people.
